Econtras® executes project at Shell Moerdijk with JetBlack® PFP 120
Fire safety measures are becoming increasingly important in the industrial sector. Econtras® is currently working on a major project at Shell Moerdijk during the plant shutdown: installing fire protection around cable trays connected to the process ovens. We are equipping the cable trays with JetBlack® PFP 120, providing 120 minutes of protection during a jet fire, pool fire, or hydrocarbon fire at 1150°C.

As an experienced insulation company, Econtras® was asked to handle the fire protection of cable trays at Shell Moerdijk. For this, we are using our flexible fire-resistant insulation product, JetBlack®. The project involves a complete process — from on-site measurement to final delivery. We also handle all aftersales services.

Working with partners on UL 1709 and jet fire protection at Shell Moerdijk
To install JetBlack® PFP 120 at Shell Moerdijk, we collaborate with multiple partners. Our project manager Theo Rowaan is on-site weekly to meet with the other parties working on the plant during the shutdown. “Theo plays a key role. He coordinates the entire project and ensures that our fire-resistant insulation is properly installed around the cable trays,” says Paul Roodenburg, owner of Econtras®.

Jet fire protection with JetBlack® PFP
Jet fire protection is critical in the petrochemical industry, refineries, and offshore environments. A fire in these areas can lead to severe accidents with serious consequences. Moreover, fire safety regulations are becoming increasingly strict. Companies are therefore required to invest in proper jet fire protection as well as protection against pool fires and hydrocarbon fires (UL 1709). JetBlack® PFP provides protection against all of these.

Our engineer and project coordinator Theo Rowaan is regularly on-site at Shell Moerdijk on behalf of Econtras®. He coordinates the project we’re currently executing, by producing and installing custom-made fire-resistant insulation (JetBlack® PFP 120). This insulation is intended for the cable trays that control the emergency shutdown valves of the process ovens.

Econtras® sees a promising future for JetBlack® PFP
Safety requirements in the industry continue to increase, giving Econtras® the opportunity to expand the reach of JetBlack® PFP in the market. We are currently present at the Shell Moerdijk plant, working on fire safety. “We’re installing the JetBlack® system on the cable trays that control the emergency shutdown valves of several process ovens.
