A fire-resistant insulation blanket is also known as a fire-resistant insulation jacket or a fire-resistant insulation mattress. When you see the blanket with its professionally stitched sections made from fireproof material, you immediately recognise the pattern that led to these different names. An insulation blanket with fire-resistant capabilities is a form of passive fire protection. In this article, Econtras answers the most important questions about this type of insulation blanket.

A fire-resistant insulation blanket is always custom-made by Econtras. They are used in both small and large sizes across several sectors, such as shipping, power plants, or the (petro)chemical industry. In fact, any industry can turn to Econtras. But we mainly supply companies that need additional protection against the outbreak or spread of critical fires.
Components that are often wrapped with fire-resistant blankets include pipes that carry highly flammable liquids or gases. Cable trays and bunds that require extra fire protection are also wrapped with fire-resistant insulation blankets from Econtras. To ensure a perfect fit, each blanket is tailored to the specific component.
When properly fastening a fire-resistant insulation blanket, you can choose from various options. Some blankets come with buckles, while others are fitted with Velcro. The advantage is that even larger blankets can be removed and reattached relatively quickly by your own personnel. This is especially useful during regular inspections of the relevant components.
To give an insulation blanket fire-resistant properties, the same approach applies as with other fire prevention tools: careful selection of materials. After extensive research, Econtras selected a number of materials with proven fire-resistant performance. Tests by external, qualified laboratories have also played a crucial role.
These blankets are made with a heat-resistant insulation layer of mineral wool, such as glass wool or stone wool. Thanks to the certification obtained through testing, you as the client — and we as the supplier — can be confident that the material meets the strictest fire safety standards.
The JetBlack® PFP (Passive Fire Protection) fire-resistant insulation blanket is not only known for its flexibility — it is also the best product currently on the market when it comes to a specific type of fire protection: hydrocarbon fires and jet fires. Industries where this type of fire poses a high risk to business continuity are particularly pleased with the arrival of the specialised, custom-made JetBlack® PFP fire-resistant insulation.
The material offers long-lasting resistance in the event of a fire. It has also been extensively tested to meet strict standards — even in situations where a fire has already broken out and needs to be contained as efficiently and effectively as possible.
